Weekday Wine - Rosé for Fall
As the temperature drops, we tend to ignore rosé, the wine that we loved only yesterday. But rosé from Bandol is another creature altogether. Les Voiles rosé is raised in a giant natural amphitheater framed by the Sainte-Baume and Mont-Caume mountains. The vines cling to sun-drenched, chalky hills where yields are capped at a strictly low yield to ensure weight and density in the wine. The bone-dry vineyard offers Mourvèdre, Grenache, and Cinsault, soaking up all that dusty silica minerality.
2025 Vins de Breban Bandol ‘Les Voiles’ Rosé
Provence, France
Regular price: $22 per bottle
Sale price: $17 per bottle
Mourvèdre is the star of the show here, making up at least half the blend. It loves a good heatwave and brings major character (and age-worthy antioxidants) to the party. Grenache brings the fruit, Cinsault brings the crisp, refreshing snap, and together they create a full-bodied, rich rosé that ages far better than most of our early life decisions.
Sniff it and you’ll catch vibrant fruit notes tied together with citrus zest and a subtle dash of spice. On the palate, it’s delightfully round, robust, and beautifully balanced, finishing boldly with a refreshing splash of grapefruit. This full bodied Bandol rosé is the wine that delights throughout the fall chill and well into the winter cold. Winter is coming, you say? Bring it on, it replies. (PW)
